Firefighters for Heather?

Last night, Carlos Enrique Knell, Heather Wilson's campaign manager, was standing in front of a banner saying "FireFighters for Heather", for the International Association of FireFighters (IAFF). So? What's the problem?

Well, the IAFF's local chapter, Albuquerque Area Firefighters Local 244, actually endorsed Madrid this election. There has been a group of firefighters who support Wilson this election season -- the New Mexico Professional Fire Fighters. But they aren't the IAFF. And their endorsement doesn't give the Wilson campaign the right to use the IAFF symbol.

There is an Albuquerque Journal story about the Wilson campaign using a flyer that could "mislead some voters about which candidate the union actually endorsed".

The Wilson campaign says that they aren't trying to mislead the public -- if so, then why does Knell do his interview that he knows will be on TV in front of a sign that would lead voters to believe the IAFF endorsed Wilson?

It looks like Wilson's campaign slogan of "Independent. Honest. Effective." is all wrong; we already know she votes along with George Bush and the GOP nearly 90 percent of the time. Now we know the truth about the "honest" portion.
