Wilson's Medicare Ad Funded by Pharmaceutical Lobby

I wrote about the problems with the facts in Heather Wilson's Medicare ad. It looks like there is even more to the story on the ad.

The Guardian reported that the Wilson ad, and many other similar ads for Republicans, was partially funded by the pharmaceutical lobby.
The pharmaceutical industry quietly footed the bill for at least part of a recent multimillion-dollar ad campaign praising lawmakers who support the new Medicare prescription drug benefit, according to political officials.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce claims credit for the ads, although a spokesman refused repeatedly to say whether it had received any funds from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

Washington Wilson Watch points out that seven million Americans will fall prey to the "Doughnut hole". What? You don't know what the doughnut hole is? Check out Paul Krugman's op-ed piece on it from nearly a year ago, The Deadly Doughnut.

The Medicare plan is flawed, flawed in a way to be more than just a nuisance for those who the flaw effects; it can be deadly.

The point of the fact that Big Pharma will foot the bill for Wilson's ad campaign just goes to show how beholden to special interests Wilson is. I'm sure her campaign and supporters will deny this -- but actions speak louder than words.
